About Us

Bharat Sevashram Sangha is a registered charitable non-profitable organization having presence in various countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Guyana, Canada, and Bangladesh. Bharat Sevashram Sangha is one of the oldest charitable organization in India, headquartered in Calcutta (Kolkata) founded in 1917 by Acharya Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj.

The main objective of the organization is the upliftment of under-privileged families in this modern world. It has organized several projects to help impoverished Indian tribal people. One such project involved providing schooling for children of the Sabar tribe and providing them with housing and healthcare.

It also hosts courses to train youths in information technology to enable them to find jobs which require IT skills.

The Sangha has also responded to natural calamities in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa states, the Bengal famine of 1943, the Bhopal disaster, the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2013 Cloud burst in Uttarkhand, the 2015 Nepal Earthquake and Chennai Flood. After 2004 Tsunami, Sangha set up a school for orphans at a cost of Rs.42,50,000 an orphanage at Rs.60,20,000, and 200 houses at Rs.30 Millions on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Sangha built 200 new houses at Sonankuppam village in Cuddaloer which was badly affected by Tsunami At times of political unrest during Partition of India post-independence, the Sangha has set up refugee camps and war evacuee camps in the border areas.


Aid the distressed, nurse the sick, feed the hungry and to clothe the naked.
Offer relief during natural disasters like, flood, famine etc.
Foster dissemination of the fruits of knowledge and education and come to the succor of the infirm, invalid, afflicted mankind by installing and maintaining free academic and medical institutions and other associations of charity in various parts of home and abroad.
Redress and ameliorate the socio-economic condition of the masses with encouragement of home industry, irrespective of caste and creed.
Promote moral and spiritual growth of the nation.
Keep up and uphold the spiritual, cultural heritage of India of the distant past.
Improve and enhance a feeling of sympathy, compassion, tolerance and union amongst the votaries of all faiths and good will for evolving peaceful co-existence – “Live, and let live”.
Special upliftment of the backward classes, the down-trodden and outcastes and the tribals through educational amenities extended to them.

Social Commitments:

Bharat Sevashram Sangha has more than 30 schools across India and one International School in Gurgaon for better education for under-privileged students which was inaugurated by Shri. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India.

Bharat Sevashram Sangha provides free education and nutritious food to more than 10,000 underprivileged students across India as Sangha believes that poverty can be reduced for better life only by increasing literacy and appropriate guidance.

Sangha operates free hospitals at Barajuri and Kolkata, mobile dispensary and medical units in sixty-four locations, a free residence for patients and their families in Navi Mumbai, and four hospitals and homes for leprosy patients.

A 500-bed hospital at Joka, Kolkata was inaugurated in 2010 by the Indian Finance Minister as an example of private-public partnerships in healthcare.
